Tapistelar

Founded by Giovina Carabba in 2020, Tapistelar is a textile studio where Colombian heritage craft meets Italian luxury design. The result is a distinct aesthetic that celebrates artisanal mastery, the beauty of natural materials, and the harmony between tradition and contemporary vision.

Designed in Rome, each piece is the outcome of a slow, thoughtful process, where every gesture, texture, and weave reflects Tapistelar’s ability to bring innovation and warmth into every project. At Tapistelar each piece is conceived, not produced, born from a dialogue between material, gesture, and time.

Handmade using natural fibers and metals, our rugs are made to order and highly customizable. The fibres used in Tapistelar’s designs come from fique plants grown and processed by local families in Colombia. To extract the fibres from the leaves, they cut the outermost layer of the plant, so that it may continue growing, and manually remove the pulp. The resulting fibres are dried in the sun, while the pulp is used as fertilizer in nearby crops. The dried fibres are then immersed in boiling water, dyed with natural dyes, and once again sun-dried. Next, they comb the fibres to soften them and separate the short fibres from the long ones, as only the latter are used to weave the carpets in manual looms.

Tapistelar works closely with architects and interior designers to create Bespoke Rugs that integrate texture, craftsmanship, and design into spatial narratives with depth and authenticity. The extensive catalogue offers professionals the freedom to invent, interpret, and express their project visions, bringing that warmth and character we love to see reflected in every Tapistelar rug.
