Borgo Santo Pietro: the Tuscan Haven of Beauty and Relaxation

Born out of a deep-rooted love of nature and a passion for beauty, Santo Pietro is the perfect retreat to soothe your body and spirit, while experiencing Tuscan culture. Seek refuge from the steady rhythm of daily life and satisfy all your five senses in an exclusive and uplifting environment.

Little did the current Danish owners, Jeanette and Claus Throttrup, know when they happened upon the property in 2001 that they were entering a land whose heritage dated back nearly 2500 years. Steeped in history, mysticism, and sacred curative rites, the 13th-century villa was indeed once a healing stopover for medieval pilgrims. Today, it continues to provide a sanctuary where modern souls enter an unsurpassed healing stratosphere of its own, proving the founders' desire to create a nurturing haven of beauty and relaxation to be successful.

Immersed in thirteen spacious acres of garden utopia, the villa exudes a sense of rustic grandeur and well-grounded energy. The freshwater river Merse, which runs through the outskirts of the meticulously manicured property's landscape, ultimately contributes to creating the illusion of stepping into an idyllic locus amoenus.

Each of the twenty-two rooms the boutique hotel encompasses has been singularly designed down to the utmost thoughtful detail, with custom-sought antique pieces, bespoke beds, and frescoes executed by hand.

Being in stand-alone buildings scattered around the gardens, every suite offers a magnificent landscape of the countryside with uninterrupted views over the fields and vineyards. You can admire it from the sweeping private terrace endowed with a 36 m2 saltwater pool, fitted with a jacuzzi and cascade for a touch of hydrotherapy massage, where the utmost level of privacy and ultimate retreat is maintained.

Tucked away amidst the curative herb gardens and flower meadows of the relais is the holistic boutique spa, a safe space resonating Borgo’s healing origin of medieval times, where a five-sense immersion of health and well-being ensures body and soul unwind and savor the cathartic ambiance.

The constant connection to the energy of the land and its restorative organic qualities reveals itself once again in the adjacent skincare laboratory that produces Borgo Santo Pietro’s range of 100 percent natural skin products that serve the hotel spa.

Borgo Santo Pietro’s passionate "ode to nature" finds its highest expression in a "farm-to-plate" philosophy, grounded in the principles of biodiversity and regenerative agriculture. The flourishing 300-acre organic farm, vineyards, herb gardens, and artisan cheese supply and inspire the cuisine of the Michelin-starred Restaurant "Borgo Santo Pietro Saporium”. The unique and exquisite dishes served here encapsulate Borgo’s mission to share wondrously inventive cooking while respecting and highlighting the rhythm of nature. At the heart of this fully immersive culinary experience is the pure celebration of the emotions triggered by the authentic taste of the estate’s fresh produce.

The resort's "Borgo Cooking School" is an amazing experience to take their love for the culinary arts a step further. This exclusive initiative offers the possibility to learn hands-on the essentials of Italian cooking, under the guidance of Mamma Olga, a local "nonna" who grew up in Borgo Santo Pietro and passes down local village traditions, masterfully turning seasonal produce into desirable dishes.

The hotel’s commitment to authentic production also led it to master the art of winemaking. Situated below the thirteenth-century villa is the ancient Borgo Santo Pietro’s cavernous cellar, which hosts nearly 1250 prestigious Tuscan labels lining its walls. The wine list offered today is the result of many years dedicated to research, understanding the terroir, and engaging with local winemakers to select wines that uphold the tradition of winemaking while showing the utmost respect for the production process.

Born from the desire to provide further knowledge about the world of oenology, the “Borgo Wine Academy” arranges bespoke wine-tasting sessions hosted by expert sommeliers. Their role is to help guests gain a deeper understanding of Italian wine culture, providing unique insights and expert suggestions.

The resort offers many more unforgettable experiences to get under the skin of Tuscan culture, granting its guests the precious opportunity to participate in the activities that make this corner of Italy so justifiably renowned, such as Vespa excursions, private helicopter flights, hot air ballooning, Florence shopping, Siena guided tour and Satori Yacht tours.
